Your career with us will start out as a General Repair Vehicle Technician performing skilled mechanical diagnosis and repair on automotive vehicle equipment owned and operated by Spokane Transit. You will inspect, test, adjust, repair and replace complete or integral parts of engines, transmissions, drive shafts, and differentials. You will maintain cooling, electrical, exhaust, and air or hydraulic brake systems. Are you looking for advancement? Based upon your acquired knowledge and drive to succeed, you can go from being a General Repair Mechanic to a Journeyman Mechanic, Lead Mechanic, or Foreperson.

With your effective problem solving and analysis skills, you will have a direct impact on our ability to provide safe and reliable transportation to the citizens of Spokane County.

  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (We do the training & testing!)
  • The ability to pass a General Repair Vehicle Technician examination
  • Your own set of basic automotive tools or ability to obtain them by date of hire
  • Basic computer and math skills
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment

Examples of Duties

  • Inspect, test, adjust, repair and replace complete or integral parts of engine systems
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair transmissions, drive shafts, and differentials
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair cooling, electrical, exhaust and air or hydraulic brake systems
  • Remove and replace automatic transmissions
  • Inspect and adjust bus door operation, air-ride systems, and steering systems
  • Respond to road calls and exchange buses for operators when required

Education and Experience

Two years of experience repairing and maintaining vehicles, or two years of education in automotive or heavy diesel equipment repair, or any combination of education and experience
