A Right-Sized Approach to Service Expansion

We Want Your Feedback on July 2023 Service Revisions

STA service is set to undergo a revision in July, and public feedback is being sought.

The agency’s Planning & Development department has developed draft recommendations for the service revision that proposes a 6.3% overall increase in service.

These recommended service revisions and investments reflect ongoing public feedback, operator availability, and integration of City Line operations into the transit network. The draft represents a measured, right-sized approach to existing conditions for Principal Transit Planner Lukas Yanni.

“We’re looking forward to finalizing the recommendations,” said Yanni. “Knowing that we have listened to the community, the STA Board of Directors, and the planners to develop a service plan based on the resources we have available.”

An example of STA’s response to public feedback in the recommended revisions includes reviewing service in the Logan Neighborhood to increase service along Mission Avenue.

“We wanted to make sure that there was still a good amount of service along that corridor,” said Yanni. “Re-routing 26 and 28 to fill in the gaps where Route 39 was located, better connects everyone to downtown and improves the North-South travel flow.”

STA will continue collecting public feedback through outreach activities, including seeking operator and rider input through a survey, holding meetings with community groups, and holding a public hearing before going to the STA Board of Directors for approval in March.

When asked why the public should take the survey about the July 2023 Service Changes and participate in outreach activities, Yanni emphasized the impact public comments have on the planning process.

“We do listen. Public feedback is extremely important,” said Yanni. “Even when just a few people talk about the same topic in their comments, that becomes a point on our radar.”
